PTSD and similar conditions cause military personnel to suffer difficulties as a result of their experiences in the military, particularly for those who have served in combat zones. These men and women continue to be affected during their active career and for many, long after they have completed their missions. EMDR has proven to be particularly effective in alleviating these conditions. WebEMDR.com has created a free EMDR program for any military personnel, past or present, who wish to use this site. PTSD: It's in all population groups.
- Well over 300,000 - 500,000 returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are reported to be suffering from PTSD. Many Vietnam Veterans continue to suffer from PTSD.
- A Yale University Study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that of men exposed to combat, 27.8% showed signs of PTSD over the previous 12 months and 21% engaged in spousal or partner abuse.
- National Institute of Mental Health estimates 5.2 million American adults ages 18 to 54 have PTSD.
- National Institute of Mental Health states that traumatic events most often associated with PTSD for men are combat exposure, childhood neglect, physical abuse, and rape. The most traumatic events for women are rape, sexual molestation, physical attack, being threatened with a weapon, and childhood physical abuse.
